Pampanga Press Club (PPC) concluded its 2026 Basic Journalism Training, mentoring close to 100 young campus writers from across the province through a series of workshops.
The free training program was held on March 14 at the training center of the Pampanga Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office inside the Pampanga Engineering Office compound in City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

Participants attended lectures and hands-on workshops on basic newswriting, online reporting, and photography. The sessions were facilitated by media practitioners Ian Ocampo Flora of SunStar Pampanga, Ria de Fiesta of Pampanga News Now, Frederick Gonzales of Central Luzon Businessweek, and Jojo Due of Trends and Spots Blogmag.
The training program was implemented with support from the Pampanga Provincial Capitol, Philippine Sports Commission, Royce Hotel & Casino, and Orchids Bookstore.
According to Tonette Orejas, the lecture series reflects the PPC’s commitment to honing the skills of young writers, particularly those who aspire to pursue journalism.
The free lecture series is one of the organization’s sustainable programs conducted annually. It began in 2000 during the presidency of Bert Basa and continued under Peter Alagos in 2009. The program was later revived in 2019 under the leadership of Orejas and PPC Chairman Noel Tulabut, who now serves as training director.
Founded in 1949, the Pampanga Press Club is recognized as the second oldest press club in the Philippines.
