Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., running for Pampanga First District Representative in the upcoming National and Local Elections, has secured strong local support, with endorsements from all 33 incumbent barangay captains and 262 out of 264 barangay kagawad in Angeles City.
Across the broader First District of Pampanga—which includes Angeles City, Mabalacat City, and the town of Magalang—Lazatin has garnered the backing of 86 out of 87 barangay captains and 691 out of 696 barangay kagawad. Following his opponent’s withdrawal, Lazatin is now unopposed in his bid for the congressional seat.
Many barangay officials voiced their support, citing Lazatin’s public service record. “I’ve always supported the Lazatins because of their dedication to public service,” said Kagawad Nancy Susan of Barangay Agapito Del Rosario. Kagawad Ronel Tulio of Pulungbulu echoed this sentiment, adding, “Despite not being allied in previous elections, I recognize Cong Pogi’s exemplary leadership as Mayor, and I’m pleased to support him now.”
Danilo Nacu, President of the Liga ng mga Barangay in Angeles City, praised Lazatin’s connection with the community, saying, “Mayor Lazatin has a direct approach in addressing the needs of residents. We are confident he’ll serve our district well.” Liga ng mga Barangay presidents June Marimla of Magalang and Rey Pineda of Mabalacat also expressed their support for Lazatin, backed by barangay councils in their respective areas.
In addition to incumbent officials, Lazatin has the support of 42 former barangay captains and 369 former barangay kagawad in Angeles City. Orlando “Orling” Angeles, former Association of Barangay Captains President, shared, “I fully support the Lazatins because of all they have done for Angeles City and the First District.”
Lazatin first announced his candidacy for Pampanga First District Representative on June 28, 2024, at a rally in Magalang Plaza attended by over 1,800 guests, the largest political event to date in the district. The event featured prominent political figures, including Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda.
During his campaign launch, Lazatin outlined his seven-point legislative agenda focusing on health, economic growth, support for vulnerable sectors, environmental sustainability, education, transportation, and barangay development. His platform centers on the principle “ALANG MALAKWAN” (“No One Left Behind”), emphasizing inclusive public service across all communities and demographics.
“To serve is to ensure no one is left behind,” Lazatin stated. “I promise that all sectors of society will feel the impact of our service.”
Currently, Lazatin holds the distinction of being the most awarded mayor in Angeles City’s history, with 29 city awards and five personal accolades since assuming office in 2019.
