FORMER presidential spokesman, former congressman, former senatorial bet and former human rights lawyer, ah and of course, former Duterte ally? Atty. Herminio Lopez Roque Jr., popularly known all over the globe as Harry Roque, was again dumped and this time, by the camp of his “semi-God” former President Digong Duterte.
Roque, who went to the Hague in the Netherlands to cheer for his boss and to apply to be one of Duterte’s lawyers in the International Criminal Court, was again dumped, for the nth time by no other than his idol Digong.
Atty. Nicolas Kaufman, the ICC lawyer of the former president, in an interview, said that “he [Roque] is an irrelevancy and, my only regret, is that I am being forced to spend far too much time having to deal with his comical intrigues and crazy schemes. Neither the former president, nor anyone else in his immediate vicinity, is interested in Harry Roque as a lawyer.”
Before that, VP Sara told him, straight in his eyes that his services as a lawyer in the ICC defense of his father is not needed. Sara said if he is really wanted by her father, then “siya na sana ang kinuha nung umpisa palang.”
The self-proclaimed Duterte close ally, Roque is not new to being dumped — because he had already been dumped several times.
Here is the timeline of events in the public life of Atty. Roque: In 2017, he was unanimously removed by his own partylist Kabayan as congressman for grandstanding and his line of questioning against Leila De Lima during the former senator’s house committee hearing on illegal drugs. To quote the statement of the Kabayan partylist, “We deeply regret for choosing him as one of our representatives. His conduct is inimical to the image and interest of the party.” He was likewise filed a disbarment case by his fellow Kabayan Representative Ron Salo.
He was thrown-out by his own international law firm because of his conduct. He was also junked when he ran for the International Law Commission as he received the lowest vote garnered in the election.
How about the statement of his own university, his own Alma Mater — the University of the Philippines…“he has a very poor track record of promoting and defending human rights. He is morally undeserving to be part of this August international legal organization.”
In the 2019 elections when he signified his intention to run for a senate seat, he was boldly told by his boss Digong, “Roque and others want to become senators. I told Roque: you stand by. I will give you a new post. You won’t win (a seat in the Senate),” Duterte said during a gathering of top police and military officials at Malacañang. Why? Soldiers don’t like you.”
In 2022, the Filipino people dumped his senatorial bid despite his relentless dancing on stage and despite the endorsement given by Digong, Sara and BBM. He landed outside of the top 20.
Another disbarment case was filed against him last year by his fellow former cabinet secretary during the Duterte administration—Atty. Melvin Matibag for spreading deep fake video in relation to the so called “pulvoron video.”
Atty. Sal Panelo is not a big fan of Roque either. He was quoted as saying, “yung kadaldalan at kahambugan ni Roque ang nagpapahamak sa kanya. If you are man enough, face your cases here in the country. Face them like a man.”
Well, his own big mouth has put him in trouble during the House Quadcom hearing last year when he uncontrollably promised to bring documents to prove that he is not connected with illegal POGO operator Lucky South 99…then he vanished.
This guy is inconsistent. He keeps on saying that Duterte must be brought back to the Philippines because the justice system in the country is working well and yet he himself is refusing to go home to face the charges filed against him because he claims that “justice will not work for him.”
Basta — All of his colleagues and all of those who were one time or another associated with him dumped him because of his attitude, posture, big mouth, relationships, dealings, etc., etc.
