Fifteen years ago, the town of Minalin marked a historic milestone as the Sta. Monica Parish Church was declared a National Cultural Treasure, becoming the 139th in the country and the second in Pampanga.
The declaration, made on August 27, 2011, came as Minalin celebrated its 412th founding anniversary. It was a moment that honored not only the church’s centuries-old heritage, but also the deep faith, traditions, and identity of the Minalinense community.
The recognition was led by officials from the National Museum, headed at the time by Dr. Jeremy Barns and Mr. Angel Bautista. Among those who witnessed the historic occasion were then-Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda, then-Minalin Mayor Arturo Naguit, then-Sta. Monica Parish parish priest Rev. Fr. Gregorio Vega, and then-provincial tourism officer Ar. Owen Francis Canlas, along with other provincial and municipal officials.
For generations, Sta. Monica Parish Church has stood as more than a place of worship. Its walls have witnessed the prayers, celebrations, struggles, and stories of a community whose faith remains deeply woven into its cultural identity.
Fifteen years after its historic declaration, the church continues to inspire pride among Minalinenses and Kapampangans, standing as a living reminder of the province’s rich heritage and enduring faith.
