The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Nueva Ecija has distributed about P2 million worth of aid to those affected by typhoons Egay and Falcon and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).
This is from the combined value of the granted relief goods and financial assistance.
According to DSWD Nueva Ecija Provincial Social Marketing Officer Christer Carandang, relief distribution is still ongoing in areas or local governments that requested aid the agency.
Based on the records of the office, 88 barangays in the province were affected by the recent calamities that reached 16,942 families, equivalent to 61,843 individuals.
He also mentioned that the agency is ready to help the compatriots whose houses have been destroyed due to the recent rains.
Carandang mentioned that from the assessment conducted by the local governments, 226 houses were recorded partially damaged of which 211 were from the town of Carranglan, 11 from the town of Cuyapo and four from Nampicuan.
He said there are 17 totally damaged houses where all are from the town of Carranglan.
Carandang clarified, in addition to this, there are 28 families who have been damaged and lost their homes due to the erosion of the slope where their houses are standing in the town of San Leonardo.
They immediately received a family food pack, hygiene kit, sleeping kit, family kit, kitchen kit and modular tent from the DSWD.
Meanwhile, there is also an Emergency Shelter Assistance program that is provided by the agency based on the recommendations of local governments and the beneficiary’s need for assistance.
Carandang reminded that the offices of Local Social Welfare and Development Offices in every municipality and city are open for those who need help especially during calamities.
He said the agency is always ready to help the needs of local governments in delivering aid to the citizens. (PIA 3)
