PGT celebrates Filipino Elderly Week

THE Provincial Government of Tarlac (PGT), under the leadership of Governor Christian Tell Yap, celebrated Filipino Elderly Week on October 27 at the Bulwagang KanLahi of Diwa ng Tarlac.

The celebration, themed “Nakakatandang Pilipino: May Halaga at Karapatan, May Boses at Ambag sa Bayan,” honored the invaluable contributions of Filipino senior citizens to the nation, particularly the elderly in Tarlac.

The observance was established through Proclamation No. 470, issued by then-President Fidel V. Ramos.

As part of the celebration, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), headed by Ma. Elena Jalos, presented the “Ulirang Nakakatanda” Awards to outstanding senior citizens who demonstrated excellence in education, agriculture, and entrepreneurship. The awards recognized their significant contributions to the development of their respective municipalities.

Vice Governor Estelita Aquino, along with Senior Citizens Party-list Representative Rodolfo “Ompong” Ordoñez, National Commission of Senior Citizens Region III Director Emmanuel Daez, San Manuel Mayor Donya Tesoro, Camiling Mayor Joyce Agustin, Board Member Emilio “Mico” Macasaet, and Provincial Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs Secretary Rosita Vigare, graced the event.

In her message, Aquino highlighted the important role of senior citizens in shaping the values of younger generations and serving as their guides and inspirations toward a better future.

“Napakahalaga po ng inyong kontribusyon sa paghubog sa mga kabataan. Nagsisilbi kayong inspirasyon sa kanila upang, sa kanilang pagtanda, ay mahalin at pahalagahan ang kanilang pamilya habang nakatutulong din sa kaunlaran ng ating lalawigan,” she said.

The celebration also featured intermission performances by senior citizens from various municipalities, showcasing their talents and active participation in community activities.
