BiyaHero at 4: NLEX ramps up Road Safety with Driver Empowerment

Now on its fourth year, NLEX Corporation’s BiyaHero Road Safety Caravan continues to drive change where it matters mostβ€”on the road. Held from July 3 to 5, 2025 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, this year’s caravan gathered over 300 drivers, transport operators, and mechanics in partnership with the Philippine Commercial Vehicle Show, reinforcing NLEX’s commitment to safer roads for all.

β€œThis isn’t just an eventβ€”it’s a life-saving movement,” said Luis S. ReΓ±on, Officer-In-Charge of NLEX Corporation. β€œWe’re building a culture of proactive safety and smarter driving across the transport industry.”

As part of NLEX’s broader β€˜Mission Road Safety’ advocacy, the three-day caravan united key players from over a dozen transport groupsβ€”including CTAP, INHTA, HATAW, ALTODAP, ACTO, and moreβ€”offering hands-on training on accident prevention, vehicle compliance, and emergency response.

Participants heard from national transport leaders like DOTr Director Joshua Joseph Rodriguez, who emphasized calling road incidents β€œcrashes” instead of β€œaccidents,” to underscore that most are preventable. LTO Asec. Greg Pua Jr. detailed legal requirements such as helmet use and child car seats, while Shell’s Edward Tan and AC-1’s Dawny Rubillo led discussions on safe cargo handling and journey risk management.

The caravan also featured interactive learning tools, including a driving simulator and drunk goggles, helping participants experience the risks of impaired driving in a controlled setting.

NLEX’s own Safety and Patrol Team, led by Dave Bautista, Eric Cruz, and Maike Lacson, tackled driver preparedness and emergency response along tollways.

β€œThanks to NLEX and its partners, our drivers are more equipped to protect themselves, their passengers, and the communities they serve,” said INHTA President Teddy Gervacio.

At a time when road crashes remain a pressing concern, BiyaHero continues to push the boundaries of road safety educationβ€”empowering every Filipino driver to be β€œmay alam at laging handa.”
