Senator Win urges Policy Action to offset impact of US Tariffs on PH Exports

Senator Win Gatchalian has urged swift policy interventions to soften the blow of the 19% reciprocal tariff recently imposed by the United States on Philippine exports.

Speaking at a Senate Committee on Economic Affairs hearing, Gatchalian, who chairs the Finance Committee, warned that some export-dependent industries are already reporting job losses barely a month after the tariff announcement.

“We should look at policy interventions to help those who will lose their jobs,” he stressed.

The senator said he will refile a resolution to assess the full extent of the tariffs’ impact, including potential supply chain disruptions and the possible pullout of manufacturers seeking to avoid added costs.

“Kailangan nating makita ang buong epekto ng reciprocal tariffs para makagawa ng mga polisiya na tutulong sa mga maaapektuhang sektor at mawawalan ng trabaho,” he added.
