NGCP: ANCILLARY SERVICES DRIVE TRANSMISSION RATE HIKE IN AUGUST

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported that transmission rates for August 2025 rose by 7.09% due to higher Ancillary Services (AS) charges.
The overall equivalent average transmission rate increased to ₱1.4171/kWh, up from July’s ₱1.3233/kWh. AS costs climbed by ₱0.0787/kWh, from ₱0.5872/kWh in July to ₱0.6659/kWh in August.

AS charges, which cover power supplied during supply-demand imbalances, are pass-through costs remitted directly to generation companies and the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP). NGCP clarified it does not profit from AS charges.

Meanwhile, NGCP’s transmission wheeling rate — the fee for power delivery through its grid — inched up by just ₱0.0047/kWh, from ₱0.5923 in July to ₱0.5970 in August.

“For August 2025, NGCP charges only about ₱0.5970/kWh for its transmission service, while Ancillary Services remain the biggest component of transmission-related costs,” the grid operator said.
