Kalangitan rehab push advances low-carbon future

The national government is moving forward with the rehabilitation of the 100-hectare Kalangitan Sanitary Landfill in Tarlac following the successful recovery of the site, marking a key step toward sustainable land use and a low-carbon future.

Officials from the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), Clark Development Corporation (CDC), and the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) conducted a joint site inspection on February 3 to evaluate conditions ahead of the rehabilitation phase.

Leading the inspection were BCDA President and CEO Joshua Bingcang, BCDA Vice President for Land and Assets Development Richard Cepe, CDC Environmental Permits Division Manager Erwin Bognot, and EMB Regional Director Martin Jose Despi.

Authorities said that once site inventories are completed, restoration activities will proceed in line with environmental standards and long-term land recovery goals.

The project supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and aligns with the national government’s push for sustainable and responsible land use.

Officials said the rehabilitation also reinforces the government’s commitment to environmental protection and responsible management of state lands while preparing the area for future sustainable use.
