CIDG seizes ₱698K worth of alleged substandard cooking oil in Bulacan

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) confiscated nearly ₱700,000 worth of alleged substandard food products and arrested one suspect during an operation in Barangay San Jose, Paombong on April 7.

The operation, conducted at around 9:30 p.m. by the CIDG Anti-Fraud and Commercial Crimes Unit (AFCCU) in coordination with local police units, resulted in the seizure of cooking oil, vinegar, and fish sauce with an estimated value of ₱698,660.

In a report to CIDG Director Robert AA Morico II, authorities identified the suspect only as “Merry,” a female of legal age, who was allegedly caught selling and distributing food products without proper registration.

The suspect is facing charges for violations of Republic Act No. 9711 and Republic Act No. 7394.

CIDG officials emphasized that under Republic Act No. 9711, the manufacture, importation, and sale of food and health products without authorization from the Food and Drug Administration are strictly prohibited. They added that unregistered food items pose potential risks to public health as these have not undergone proper safety and quality evaluation.

The intensified operations form part of the nationwide campaign of the Philippine National Police under the leadership of PNP Chief Jose Melencio C Nartatez Jr. to curb illegal manufacturing and trading activities.

The CIDG also commended AFCCU Acting Chief Rafael D Lero for the successful operation, underscoring the agency’s continued commitment to protecting consumers and enforcing laws against substandard products.

Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant when purchasing food items and to report suspicious activities to the CIDG.
