What started as a simple vacation house has grown into a thriving hospitality business for Carmen Kanematsu, owner of Minshuku KCS Hotel and Restaurant.
With no formal background in business, Kanematsu relied on experience and instinct when she decided to turn their island property into a source of income. More than seven years later, the hotel continues to welcome returning guests drawn by its signature warmth and authentic Japanese cuisine.

Operating on an island, however, came with challenges—made even tougher when the hotel opened just before the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the uncertainty, Kanematsu remained focused on improving operations and steadily built the hotel’s reputation as a cozy, family-run retreat.
True to its name, “minshuku,” a Japanese term for traditional family-operated lodgings, the hotel offers guests a “home away from home” experience through personalized service and a welcoming atmosphere.
As the business expanded, reliable internet became essential to daily operations. Kanematsu recalled the stress caused by frequent outages from their previous provider, especially when it affected guest satisfaction.
“Every time nawawalan ng signal or walang nagre-response agad, stressful sa amin. Once na nagreklamo ang guest, stressed na ako,” she said, noting that they eventually decided to look for a better provider.
After switching to Converge, the improvement was immediate. The stable connection reduced complaints and allowed the team to focus more on guest service rather than technical issues.
Kanematsu said dependable internet has become vital in the hospitality industry, where quick responses to online bookings and inquiries are expected.
“Malaki ’yung difference. Ngayon wala na akong naririnig na reklamo. Everybody needs internet,” she shared.
She also emphasized the importance of staying responsive to guests through their online platforms.
“Palagi kong ibinibilin sa kanila, huwag hayaang unattended ‘yung mga guest. Chinicheck nila palagi ’yung Facebook page namin. Ayoko mainip ang mga guest sa response,” she added.
With smoother operations supported by a reliable internet connection, Minshuku KCS continues to strengthen its commitment to quality service—offering not just a place to stay, but a memorable and welcoming experience for every guest.
“Dito sa hotel, expect good service and our mouth-watering authentic Japanese dishes,” Kanematsu said.
