Gatchalian urges SSS, GSIS to extend loans for e-vehicles acquisition

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has urged the Social Security System (SSS) and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) to offer loan programs that would help members acquire electric vehicles (EVs) amid rising fuel prices.

Gatchalian said providing accessible financing for EV purchases would help accelerate the country’s transition to cleaner transportation while reducing dependence on imported fuel.

“Marami ang nagnanais na bumili ng EV, ngunit nahahadlangan ng mataas nitong presyo. Kung mayroong mga loan facility para sa pagbili ng EV, mas matutulungan ang ating mga kababayan na hirap na sa patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng gasolina at diesel,” the senator said.

The lawmaker has been advocating for a faster shift to EVs, citing volatile global fuel prices and the potential savings on fuel costs that could help motorists pay monthly vehicle amortizations.
He also emphasized the need to expand charging infrastructure nationwide to encourage more organizations and consumers to transition to electric vehicles.

Gatchalian further called on the government to fast-track the shift of public utility vehicles (PUVs) to EVs through the PUV modernization program, saying this would help protect drivers and operators from fluctuating fuel prices.
