No single technology can connect a nation – Globe

Globe Telecom President and CEO Carl Cruz emphasized the need for a multi-technology approach to achieve universal connectivity, saying no single technology can connect an entire nation.

As discussions continue on the growing role of satellite services in telecommunications, Cruz said the focus should be on expanding digital access and ensuring reliable connectivity for all Filipinos rather than choosing one technology over another.

“No single technology can connect a nation,” Cruz said. “The challenge is ensuring every Filipino has access to reliable connectivity wherever they are.”

According to Globe, mobile networks, fiber infrastructure, submarine cables, and satellite technologies each play an important role in building a more connected and resilient Philippines.

The company supports technology-neutral policies that encourage innovation while maintaining high standards for service reliability, security, consumer protection, and fair competition.

Globe said satellite technology can help extend connectivity to remote islands, geographically isolated communities, transportation corridors, and disaster-affected areas where traditional network deployment remains difficult.

The telecommunications provider has integrated satellite capabilities into its network ecosystem, including a partnership with Starlink to expand connectivity and strengthen communications during emergencies and disaster response efforts.

Globe recently deployed satellite-based connectivity solutions in Mindanao to support communication services while network restoration activities were ongoing.

The company said combining multiple technologies can help close coverage gaps, improve network resilience, and bring digital opportunities to more communities across the country.
