Save the Trees Coalition volunteers map MacArthur Highway trees

The Save the Trees Coalition (STC) conducted an urban tree inventory and assessment along the Sindalan–Telabastagan stretch of MacArthur Highway in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga on June 30, bringing together 38 volunteers to document and assess roadside trees in support of urban forestry and conservation efforts.

Led by Foresters Luid Paolo Serrano and John Philip Fajarda, volunteers identified tree species, assessed their condition, and collected field data. A total of 58 trees, including acacia, kamachile, gmelina, and talisay, were documented. The assessment also recorded tree health concerns such as pruning impacts, trunk wounds, decay, and termite presence to provide baseline information for future maintenance and monitoring.

The afternoon session was canceled due to inclement weather, with the coalition saying the continuation of the activity will be announced soon.

STC said the inventory highlights the importance of protecting decades-old roadside trees, many of which have stood since the 1970s, while encouraging greater public participation in urban forestry. Another volunteer-led tree inventory is scheduled in July along Friendship Highway.
