Gapan mayor hails MTerra Solar Project for jobs, growth

Mayor Emary Joy Pascual thanked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) for bringing the MTerra Solar Project to Gapan City, citing its expected benefits in employment, local revenues, and public services.

Her remarks came after President Marcos led the inauguration of Phase I of the project in Barangay Puting Tubig on July 14.

Pascual said the development has already created jobs for local residents and is expected to generate additional tax revenues that will help the city government expand programs and services.

Nueva Ecija 4th District Rep. Emerson “Emeng” Pascual said about 20,000 Gapan residents are currently employed during the project’s construction phase and assured MGEN of the continued support of local leaders.

Phase I of the MTerra Solar Project is scheduled to begin full commercial operations by August 2026, with Phase II targeted for completion in 2027. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to generate up to 3,500 megawatts peak of solar power, supported by 4,500 megawatt-hours of battery energy storage, enough to supply electricity to more than 2.4 million households.

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said the project will strengthen the country’s power grid, expand the use of renewable energy, and help ensure a more reliable and affordable electricity supply, while President Marcos described it as a major milestone in advancing the Philippines’ renewable energy and energy security goals.
