President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian visited families temporarily isolated after a bridge was damaged by strong river currents brought by heavy rains from the southwest monsoon (Habagat).

The visit aimed to assess the residents’ condition and ensure that affected families were receiving adequate government assistance.

The DSWD Field Office 3, through its “Angels in Red Vest,” immediately delivered 1,000 Family Food Packs, Family Kits, and ₱10,000 in cash assistance for each affected family to help meet their immediate needs and support their livelihood.

Joining the visit were DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, DSWD Field Office 3 Regional Director Venus F. Rebuldela, and Assistant Regional Director for Operations Armont C. Pecina.

Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon, Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., and Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara also joined the assessment to examine the impact on infrastructure, agriculture, and education and identify additional interventions.

Meanwhile, a temporary bridge has been constructed through coordination between the government and the community, helping restore access and the normal flow of activities in the area.

The DSWD Field Office 3 remains on heightened alert amid the threat of continued Habagat rains to ensure immediate assistance for families who may be affected, in line with its mandate to ensure that no family is left without food and support during disasters and emergencies.
