DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, Toll Regulatory Board Executive Director Jay Art Tugade, and NLEX President and General Manager Luis S. Reñon inspected the NLEX San Simon section on Thursday as flooding from the overflow of the Pampanga River continued to affect traffic in the area.
Traffic flow along the expressway has improved following immediate flood-mitigation measures implemented by NLEX, prompting Dizon to welcome the progress.
“We will keep on working on this. Importante masolusyunan ito nang mabilis at magtulung-tulong tayo [private and public sector],” Dizon said.
Dizon also called on NLEX to assist in dredging the Tulaoc River to improve water flow and help ease flooding. He stressed that keeping the expressway passable remains a priority, particularly as deeper flooding continues along the lower-lying MacArthur Highway.
The DPWH chief said sustained cooperation between government agencies and private-sector partners will be crucial in developing long-term solutions to flooding in the area.
NLEX thanked the DPWH, Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and Philippine Coast Guard for their assistance in responding to the flooding in San Simon.
