Two families were pre-emptively evacuated from a high-risk area in Barangay Sapangbato on Thursday night after responders found active soil erosion threatening nearby homes amid the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

At around 9:23 p.m. on September 3, personnel from the Operations and Warning Division of the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO), in coordination with barangay officials, inspected vulnerable slope areas in Purok Uno West.

The inspection identified active soil erosion along a slope, with visible structural cracks developing on one of the nearby houses, raising concerns over possible ground collapse as heavy rains persist.

To prevent possible casualties, ACDRRMO personnel and barangay officials evacuated two families living within the danger zone to a safe shelter.

Responders also installed caution tape and warning signs around the affected area to restrict access and protect residents and passersby.

The operation was carried out as the city heightened monitoring of vulnerable areas following weather warnings associated with the Southwest Monsoon and DOST-PAGASA Impact-Based Forecast No. 29.

The ACDRRMO said emergency response units continue to maintain round-the-clock monitoring of high-risk waterways and slopes across Angeles City to ensure timely intervention and pre-emptive action during hazardous weather conditions.
