The Lubao local government unit, in partnership with the Pamilyang Pineda, has resumed its feeding program to help improve the nutrition and health of children following the recent rains.
More than 1,000 underweight students from public elementary and high schools received milk supplements this week as part of the renewed program.
The initiative goes beyond milk supplementation. Beneficiaries are also provided with nutritious meals three times a week, along with regular intake of iron, multivitamins, and ascorbic acid to provide additional nutritional support.
Lubao Mayor Esmeralda Pineda and Councilor Jayson Victorino led the distribution for beneficiaries from the following schools:
- Lourdes Elementary School
- Sta. Cruz High School
- Sta. Cruz Elementary School
- San Pablo 2nd High School
- Lubao Elementary School
- Lubao National High School
- San Roque Dau High School
- San Vicente National High School
Program targets
- 1,151 elementary pupils
- 889 high school students
- 2,040 total beneficiaries
The LGU also reported positive results from the program. Based on its data, 75% of the underweight students enrolled in the program last year showed improvement in their nutritional status.
Several parents likewise shared that their children have become more interested in eating and gained weight since joining the program.
In addition to the nutritional interventions, beneficiaries received food packs containing rice and canned goods as supplementary assistance.
The LGU also reminded families to remain vigilant against dengue, particularly during the rainy season. Residents were urged to keep their surroundings clean and remove stagnant water that may serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
