Mekeni brings Filipino flavors to Taiwan at 40

A familiar taste can make home feel a little closer, even thousands of miles away.

For overseas Filipinos, the flavors of childhood breakfasts and family gatherings carry memories that distance cannot erase. And for Pampanga-born Mekeni Food Corporation, bringing these flavors to Taiwan is more than expanding its international market—it is about reconnecting Filipinos with home.

As it celebrates four decades of Filipino flavor, Mekeni marked another milestone with its launch at the OWWA OFW Global Center in Taipei, participation in the Jesus is Lord Olympics and Food Festival in southern Taiwan, and presence at the 2026 World in Pingtung – International Market in Kaohsiung.

The initiatives brought Mekeni’s well-loved products closer to the Filipino community while introducing Taiwanese consumers to the distinct flavors of Philippine cuisine.

For Mekeni President Pruds Garcia, the Taiwan activities reflect the company’s enduring connection with Filipino families.

“As we celebrate 40 years of Mekeni, we are reminded that our success is rooted in the families and communities that have welcomed us into their lives. Bringing our products closer to Filipinos in Taiwan is our way of making them feel that, even when they are far from home, a familiar taste can still bring them closer to the people and memories they cherish,” Garcia said.

Familiar Flavors, Fond Memories
At the OWWA OFW Global Center in Taipei, Mekeni’s launch offered overseas Filipino workers a comforting connection to their roots through familiar food favorites.

From hotdogs that bring back childhood memories to tocino traditionally enjoyed at the family breakfast table, the products offered more than a meal—they served as reminders of home.

Beyond the Filipino community, Mekeni also reached Taiwanese consumers during the 2026 World in Pingtung – International Market, where its Picnic Hotdogs, Classic Tocino, and other Filipino favorites drew interest from fairgoers.

The positive reception highlighted opportunities for Filipino food brands to appeal to international consumers while promoting Philippine culinary traditions.

Mekeni Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and Exports Marilou Uy said the company’s participation opened doors for stronger connections with both overseas Filipinos and new markets.

“Our participation in Taiwan allows us to bring Filipino food closer to our kababayans while introducing our products to new consumers. We see this as an opportunity to build meaningful connections, understand the market, and share the quality and flavors that Filipino families have come to know and love,” Uy said.

She added that every product experience could become an invitation for more consumers to discover Mekeni and Filipino cuisine.

Four Decades of Filipino Flavor
Founded in 1986 in Porac, Pampanga, Mekeni has grown from a homegrown enterprise into an internationally recognized Filipino food brand with a presence in more than 25 countries.

Built on the legacy of founders Felix and Meding Garcia, the company continues to uphold its commitment to quality, innovation, and bringing families together through food.

Its 40th anniversary theme, “May Kwento sa Bawat Timpla,” celebrates the memories, traditions, and family stories woven into every Filipino meal.

The Taiwan initiatives add another chapter to that journey, strengthening Mekeni’s international presence while sharing a distinctly Filipino experience with new audiences.

Four decades after its humble beginnings in Pampanga, Mekeni continues to carry Filipino flavors across borders—proving that while its market may be global, its heart remains proudly Filipino.

And wherever Filipinos find themselves in the world, a familiar taste of home is never too far away.
