NSCR relocation housing in Pampanga ion track for 2027 completion

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is closely monitoring the construction of relocation housing in Mexico and Angeles City to ensure that families affected by the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project are provided decent homes by 2027.

Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez said the National Housing Authority (NHA) and local government units (LGUs) are working together to fast-track the completion of housing units at San Fernando View Residences in Mexico and Casa de Angeles in Angeles City.

The initiative follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure that families displaced by major infrastructure projects are relocated to safe and decent communities.

Lopez emphasized that the DOTr will closely oversee construction to meet completion targets and prevent further displacement of affected families.

DOTr Assistant Secretary for Right-of-Way and Site Acquisition IC Calaguas recently inspected both relocation sites to assess construction progress and ensure compliance with project timelines.

At San Fernando View Residences in Mexico, the development includes four-story residential buildings, with 288 housing units initially allocated for project-affected families.

Phases 1 and 2, covering four buildings, are scheduled for completion in November 2026, while Phase 4, comprising six buildings, is targeted for November 2027.

Meanwhile, Casa de Angeles, the city’s first medium-rise relocation housing development, will provide 615 housing units in four-story buildings, with completion targeted for December 2027.

Mexico Mayor Rodencio Gonzales expressed support for the relocation program, acknowledging the municipality’s responsibility in accommodating displaced families while recognizing the long-term benefits of the NSCR for commuters.

Angeles City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin II likewise welcomed the national government’s housing initiative, saying it would provide affected families with affordable homes and greater housing security.

Calaguas assured that the DOTr, NHA, and concerned LGUs will continue coordinating to accelerate construction and ensure the timely turnover of housing units.

The relocation program forms part of the government’s efforts to balance major transport infrastructure development with the welfare and housing needs of affected communities.
