Pope Leo XIV greeted pilgrims during the Sunday Angelus, reportedly making his first scheduled public appearance since leaving the hospital on Saturday.
Addressing the faithful, the Pontiff expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who offered prayers and support during his hospitalization.
“I would like to thank all those who have prayed for me in recent days. I have truly sensed your support. Thank you!” he said.
He also extended special appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff of Gemelli Hospital for their care.
Reflecting on his experience, the Pope said his hospitalization had deepened his compassion for people suffering from illness and physical infirmity.
“This experience has made me feel particularly close to all those who are living with illness or infirmity,” he shared.
The Pontiff also expressed hope for a gradual return to his responsibilities, drawing strength from his faith and the prayers of the faithful.
“Now that I have overcome this delicate phase, as you know, I will gradually resume my activities, always with God’s help and your prayers,” he said.
His message centered on gratitude, compassion, and faith amid the challenges of illness and recovery.
