AboitizPower-led Subic EnerZone Corp. has renewed its power distribution partnership with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), extending its management of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone’s power distribution system for another 25 years.
Subic EnerZone has operated the Freeport’s power distribution system since October 2003, providing electricity to businesses, residential communities, and other establishments within the economic zone.
As of Feb. 28, 2026, the utility served more than 3,750 customers, including industrial and commercial locators, residential consumers, and streetlights. It also supplies electricity to industrial locators through the Retail Electricity Supply program.
At the end of 2025, Subic EnerZone reported system losses of 4.37 percent, below the government-mandated ceiling of 5.50 percent for private distribution utilities.
Anton Mari G. Perdices, AboitizPower’s chief executive officer for distribution utilities, said reliable electricity would remain essential to supporting business operations, community services, and investment in the Subic Bay Freeport.
He said the renewed partnership would focus on working with SBMA to strengthen the Freeport’s power distribution infrastructure and prepare for its evolving energy requirements.
Perdices added that long-term planning, coordination, and continued efforts to improve reliability would be important in supporting the economic zone’s future growth.
Jay Navarro, Subic EnerZone’s officer-in-charge president and general manager, said the company would pursue system upgrades and reliability improvements in line with SBMA’s vision of developing a modern, resilient, and future-ready economic hub.
Navarro said the utility’s demand and capacity forecasts indicated a steady increase in electricity requirements. He added that Subic’s role as the Global Gateway of the Luzon Economic Corridor was expected to further influence future power demand.
At the renewal ceremony, SBMA Chairman and Administrator Engr. Eduardo Jose Aliño presented the agency’s strategic direction and upcoming development plans, emphasizing the importance of reliable energy infrastructure in maintaining investor confidence and supporting economic growth in the Subic Bay Freeport.
Aliño said the renewed agreement would strengthen cooperation between SBMA and Subic EnerZone in modernizing infrastructure, ensuring reliable electricity services, and advancing the development of a more sustainable Freeport.
He noted that the existing contract was set to run until 2028 but said the agency was pursuing renewal ahead of its expiration to ensure that the partnership could respond to the region’s changing needs.
Aliño also cited Subic EnerZone’s role in delivering electricity to communities and businesses in Zambales and Bataan as an example of the partnership’s contribution to the region.
As of Feb. 28, 2026, AboitizPower held a 99.98 percent equity interest in Subic EnerZone, directly and indirectly through Davao Light.
