Aeta Scholar becomes first MedTech Board Passer

A young scholar from the Aeta community in Porac has made history after becoming the first Medical Technologist board passer from the indigenous Aeta population in Pampanga.

Rolan Popatco Jr., 22, of Barangay Camias, successfully passed the Medical Technologist Licensure Examination, marking a significant milestone not only for his family but also for his community.

Popatco is one of the scholars of the Pampanga provincial government, which supported his education from high school through college. Through the province’s scholarship program, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science degree from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel before achieving success in the licensure examination.

On Monday, he personally received financial assistance from Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda in recognition of his accomplishment. He was among 99 newly licensed professionals who received support for their board review and examination expenses, including 50 Medical Technologists and 49 Civil Engineers.

Governor Pineda said these newly licensed professionals are among Pampanga’s most valuable assets, emphasizing that continued investment in education not only helps young people achieve their goals but also creates greater opportunities for growth and development across the province.

Popatco’s achievement stands as a testament to the power of determination, hard work, and educational support, inspiring young Kapampangans—especially those from indigenous communities—to pursue their dreams despite challenges.
