The Angeles City government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., staged the first ever Ayta Tribal Games on October 23, 2024, in Barangay Sapangbato.
The event celebrated the Aeta community’s cultural heritage and connection to nature, highlighting their skills in traditional sports like archery, javelin throw, and blowpipe competitions.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that the Tribal Games aim to foster a sense of pride and awareness among the Aeta people about the importance of preserving their cultural and natural heritage. Participants from different sitios (villages) in Barangay Sapangbato—Balaraw, Bliss, Babo, and Target—competed in the games, showcasing their athleticism and traditions.
Winners were awarded cash prizes and plaques, with first-place recipients taking home P10,000 each. The event was attended by local officials and community leaders, who recognized the importance of preserving indigenous practices and fostering cultural pride through events like this.
