Mekeni launches ‘green initiative’ with Solar Energy Project

Mekeni Food Corporation has taken a major step towards sustainability by partnering with SolarNRG to install 1,006 photovoltaic (PV) solar panels at its main plant in Porac, Pampanga. This initiative is part of Mekeni’s commitment to supporting the government’s sustainable development goals.

The solar panels, installed in the plant’s cold storage facility, currently power 20% of the company’s total energy needs. This project is expected to reduce Mekeni’s carbon footprint by around 288,021 kilograms of carbon dioxide annually. The environmental benefits are also equivalent to planting 86,020 trees over 25 years or removing over 2,000 cars from the road for the same period.

Mehran Cruz Khaledi, SolarNRG’s Business Development Manager, expressed excitement over the partnership, noting that both companies share a vision of promoting eco-friendly solutions in the Philippines.

Mekeni President Pruds Garcia called the project a significant milestone, hoping it will expand solar energy use across more areas of their operations, contributing to a safer and more eco-friendly community.

This project also aligns with the Department of Energy’s goal to increase renewable energy use to 35% by 2030, reinforcing Mekeni’s dedication to sustainable practices.
