Mayor Jun Tetangco has called for immediate action to clear waterways and tributaries in Apalit following the effects of the recent typhoon and southwest monsoon (habagat).

Tetangco met with key officials from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), GCR and HMDJV to discuss the impact of recent weather disturbances on the municipality and its communities, including areas around the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) staging area.

During the meeting, Tetangco emphasized the need to remove debris obstructing natural waterways and tributaries to restore the free flow of water and help mitigate flooding during future heavy rains.

For their part, DOTr, HMDJV and GCR committed to removing perceived obstructions along the Philippine National Railways right-of-way and restoring old water passageways to complement the local government’s ongoing desilting and clearing operations.

Tetangco also appealed to neighboring local government units to undertake similar efforts and coordinate with Apalit in addressing drainage and waterway concerns.

“Positively dealing with the unexpected by looking for solutions, not excuses, is the choice you need to make,” Tetangco said.
