Caritas PH urges public to join National Vaccinations Days

The head of Caritas Philippines, Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo, encouraged the public to take advantage of the upcoming three-day national Covid-19 vaccination program.

The Church, he said, has been supportive of the government’s call for a “whole-of-society” approach to curb the effects of the pandemic in the country.

“Getting vaccinated has been one of our strongest appeals,” Bagaforo said.

The government is targeting to inoculate at least 15 million people during the “National Vaccination Days” from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.

The national Caritas, through the social action centers, has been collaborating with the Department of Health, World Health Organization, and the private sector to increase the vaccination turn-out in the country.

“Aside from opening our facilities as vaccination areas, the church volunteers and other resources were offered to the Department of Health and the local government units in full support of the program,” said Fr. Tony Labiao, Caritas Philippines executive secretary.

“We will continue to do so until all is done with our vaccination program,” he said.

According to the reports of the Covid-19 Inter-Agency Task Force, the country already received 123 million vaccine doses through donations and procurements, and recorded 53 million administered doses.

“Aside from the regular vaccination activities which started in April this year, we are also partnering with the local government units in pediatric vaccination for minors aged 12-17 years old, as well as the administration of booster shots as part of the whole Covid-19 response,” Labiao said.

Caritas Philippines has been working with the DOH Metro Manila Center for Health Development for months now in providing the public accurate and relevant information on the Covid-19 response of the government.

“We are seeing that all stakeholders have been helping the government achieve population immunity against the virus which led to a global meltdown,” Bagaforo said.

“We need to make the most of this coming together – let no issue – political or otherwise, ruin this beautiful fraternal solidarity,” he also said.(CBCP News)
