Angeles City Mayor Carmelo βJonβ Lazatin II assured residents that the local government continues to prioritize the safety of students, teachers, parents, and the entire community amid concerns following the recent effects of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
In a situational report issued by the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO) on September 1, the city noted improving weather conditions based on current monitoring and the forecast for September 2.
Based on the assessment, the local government said there was no sufficient basis for a city-wide suspension of classes as of Tuesday night.
Mayor Jon also noted that, at the time of his announcement, MalacaΓ±ang had yet to issue a Memorandum Circular on alternative work or class arrangements for government offices and schools.
Meanwhile, the city government recognized and respected the decisions of some public and private schools to implement granular class suspensions or remote learning based on their own assessment of the conditions affecting their students and personnel.
Mayor Jon emphasized that schools need not wait for a city-wide suspension if their own assessments indicate the need for additional safety measures.
The mayor assured residents that the city government would continue monitoring conditions and adjust its response whenever necessary based on the actual situation, stressing that the safety of students and the community remains the common priority.
