Converge expands EV fleet to boost Resilience amid oil crisis

Fiber broadband and technology provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. is accelerating the electrification of its corporate vehicle fleet to strengthen operational resilience and reduce dependence on fossil fuels amid the ongoing global oil crisis.

The company is in the process of adding more than 100 electric vehicles (EVs), effectively doubling its current inventory. These units will primarily support field operations such as installation, maintenance, and repair services for subscribers across Metro Manila.

At present, Converge operates over 120 battery-powered and hybrid vehicles used for on-ground repair and sales operations in the region.

According to Corporate Sustainability Officer Laurice Esteban-Tuason, the company aims to convert 20 percent of its fleet and contractor vehicles to electric and hybrid units by 2030 as part of its carbon reduction goals.

Esteban-Tuason said the ongoing oil supply challenges highlight the importance of sustainability initiatives that lessen reliance on fossil fuels. She noted that Converge continues to expand the use of alternative energy sources in its data centers while gradually transitioning its service vehicles to electric models.

She added that fleet electrification also serves as a strategic response to operational risks, particularly the country’s vulnerability to fuel supply disruptions and price volatility, offering benefits in cost efficiency and environmental impact.

The shift to EVs is expected to result in more stable operating costs, shielding the company from fluctuations in fuel prices.

As part of its broader sustainability efforts, Converge is also promoting the use of hybrid and electric vehicles through a car subsidy program for qualified employees.

To support its growing EV fleet, the company has installed a charging station at its headquarters in Pasig and plans to roll out additional charging facilities in other offices across Metro Manila.
