Crayfish farming gains ground in Angeles City

Crayfish farming is emerging as a promising livelihood initiative in the city, reflecting ongoing efforts to expand economic opportunities and promote inclusive growth under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo ‘Jon’ Lazatin II.

Despite being a highly urbanized area, Angeles City continues to explore innovative approaches in agriculture. In Barangay Cuayan, a breeder farm housing around 1,000 craylings has become a new source of livelihood for local residents, showcasing the potential of urban agriculture to generate income and boost food production.

The project is supported by the City Agriculture Office, whose fisheries program coordinators provide technical guidance and continuous assistance to beneficiaries to help them develop their skills in aquaculture.

City officials highlighted that initiatives like crayfish farming demonstrate how urban communities can adopt sustainable and alternative livelihood programs while strengthening local food systems.
