The Department of Agriculture (DA) recognized the vital role of farmers and fisherfolk in Central Luzon in ensuring the country’s food security during the 51st Gawad Saka Regional Awards.
DA Assistant Secretary for Operations U-Nichols Manalo underscored the importance of farmers and fisherfolk as the backbone of the nation’s food supply, emphasizing that their hard work and dedication help put food on every Filipino table.

Manalo said the awards serve as a tribute to the unwavering commitment of farmers, fisherfolk, and agricultural partners who continue to sustain food production despite challenges facing the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
Among this year’s regional awardees were Danilo Dionisio of Bulacan for Aquaculture, Ana Catalina Trinidad of Nueva Ecija as Outstanding Rural Woman, Wilson Brondial of Bataan as Outstanding Agricultural Entrepreneur, and Danilo Cunanan of Pampanga as Outstanding Corn Farmer.
Also recognized were the Pindangan 2nd Multipurpose Cooperative of Tarlac as Outstanding Corn Cluster, the Provincial Agricultural and Fisheries Council of Zambales as Outstanding Provincial Agricultural and Fisheries Council, and the Municipal Agricultural and Fisheries Council of Aurora as Outstanding Municipal Agricultural and Fisheries Council.
Manalo said the recognition program highlights the contributions of individuals and organizations that help advance the agriculture and fisheries sectors and strengthen food security in the region.
In line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s “Para sa Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas” initiative, the DA reaffirmed its commitment to continue implementing agricultural support programs in partnership with local government units and other agencies.
These interventions include production assistance, farm mechanization initiatives, and capacity-building programs aimed at improving productivity and increasing the income of farmers and fisherfolk.
The DA also encouraged members of the agriculture and fisheries sectors to remain steadfast in their work, emphasizing their indispensable role in feeding communities across Central Luzon and the rest of the country.
