DILG URGES USE OF FILIPINO DURING NATIONAL LANGUAGE MONTH

In response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call to strengthen national identity through language, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has urged all its personnel and local government units nationwide to use Filipino in all official transactions and communications this August.

Under Memorandum Circular No. 2025-076, DILG directed the use of Filipino in official correspondence, communications, and activities of LGUs. The agency also encouraged local governments to organize activities in line with the celebration to engage citizens and further promote appreciation of the national language.

This year’s theme is “Developing Filipino and Indigenous Languages: Historic in the Unity of the Nation.” Weekly sub-themes include:
📌 August 10–16: Gender and Language
📌 August 17–23: Preserving Indigenous Languages and Knowledge as Protecting the Environment
📌 August 24–30: Filipino and Indigenous Languages: Language of Free Expression

The observance of National Language Month is in line with Executive Order No. 335 and the call of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino to intensify the promotion of Filipino and indigenous languages.

The DILG urged every Filipino to actively participate in the programs of National Language Month, recognizing the vital role of language in fostering national unity, history, and culture.
