DOJ: AIRPORT WORKERS IN ‘TANIM-BALA’ INCIDENT NOT IMMIGRATION STAFF

The Department of Justice (DOJ) clarified on Monday that the three airport personnel involved in the alleged tanim-bala (bullet-planting) incident at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 are not employees of the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) confirmed that the individuals, who have already been dismissed, were under the Office for Transportation Security (OTS).

“I just want to clarify that the personnel involved are not from Immigration. There is confusion, and some reports have mistakenly linked Immigration to the issue,” DOJ Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Mico Clavano said in a chance interview.

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon stated that the three OTS personnel will also face administrative charges.

The incident involved a 69-year-old passenger who nearly missed her flight to Vietnam after being stopped by OTS personnel for an alleged “anting-anting” (amulet) resembling a bullet. No bullet was found, and footage taken by the victim and her companions showed the OTS personnel laughing while covering their nameplates.
