Earth Day Cleanup activity nets over 2K kilos of solid waste

Over 200 government employees of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) here and partner agencies converged in a fun run and cleanup activity in support of the annual celebration of the Earth Day and collected over two thousand kilos of solid waste from canals and creeks within the Diosdado Macapagal Government Center in Pampanga.

The event, dubbed as “KapaligiRUN: Kalinisan at Kalusugan, Dahil Ikaw, Ako, Tayo ang Kalikasan,” was a plogging activity that combined running with cleaning and picking up of trash.

DENR Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Arthur Salazar noted that the activity called for strategic partnership and cooperation among government agencies to uphold environmental protection and sustainability.

He added that the said initiative was a value-adding component to the government’s continued efforts to clean and rehabilitate creeks, tributaries and river systems that drain to the Manila Bay.

The theme for this year’s Earth Day celebration is “Invest in Our Planet” that promotes sustainability to safeguard biodiversity and the environment. (DENR CL)
