Globe activates contingency measures amid energy emergency, rotating brownouts

Globe Telecom assured customers that its network services will remain stable and operational amid the State of National Energy Emergency and the expected rotating power interruptions affecting parts of Luzon.

The telecommunications firm said it has activated its business continuity plan (BCP) and contingency measures to maintain uninterrupted operations of its facilities and cell sites in areas including Metro Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon.

To minimize service disruptions during brownouts, Globe said backup power systems such as generators and batteries are in place to keep network services running even in the absence of commercial power.

The company added that it continues to coordinate closely with government agencies and industry partners to ensure telecommunications services remain prioritized as critical infrastructure, allowing for sufficient operational support and faster restoration during prolonged outages.

As part of its continuity measures, Globe has also expanded work-from-home arrangements for most employees, except those assigned to critical operations such as network and IT services, customer support, stores, sales channels, and network security.

Additional energy-saving initiatives, including travel limitations, carpooling, and incentives for electric vehicle use, have also been implemented.

Globe said it continues to strengthen its long-term energy resiliency efforts by increasing the use of renewable energy and deploying energy-efficient technologies, including artificial intelligence solutions that help optimize power consumption across network sites.

Currently, around 30 percent of Globe’s network operations are powered by renewable energy.

The company emphasized its commitment to maintaining reliable connectivity and operational resilience amid ongoing energy and power supply challenges.
