Globe joins regional cable project to boost PH connectivity

Globe has joined the Candle Submarine Cable System consortium, a regional initiative aimed at strengthening digital connectivity across Asia-Pacific.

The project, led by global technology and telecommunications firms, will build an 8,000-kilometer submarine cable linking Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Expected to be operational by 2028, the system will deliver up to 570 terabits per second of capacity, among the highest in the region.

Globe will serve as both investor and landing party, with the cable connecting to its facility in Nasugbu, Batangas, complementing another landing point in Baler, Aurora. These dual sites are expected to enhance network resilience against natural disasters and reduce service disruptions.

Company officials said the project will support the growing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and enterprise digital services, while improving the country’s access to major digital hubs in Japan and Singapore.

Globe added that integrating the new system into its nationwide fiber network will help deliver faster, more reliable connectivity to businesses and consumers, supporting the Philippines’ broader push for digital transformation.
