An illegal open dumpsite in Barangay Calumpang has been ordered closed following a fire that caused thick smoke affecting nearby communities, including Xevera in Barangay Tabun.

Mayor Geld Aquino directed the shutdown after authorities found the facility operating without the necessary permits and in violation of environmental laws.

The incident prompted the city government, through the Office of the City Administrator, to issue a cease and desist order against those involved in the operation.

Aside from halting operations, the local government also ordered the immediate cleanup and rehabilitation of the site, including the removal of illegally dumped waste in accordance with environmental standards.

Officials warned that failure to comply would result in penalties, including the filing of criminal charges and other legal actions.

In a recent address, Mayor Aquino reiterated that the city will strictly enforce laws against illegal dumping, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to environmental protection and public safety.
