The prime suspect in the brutal killing of two Bocaue, Bulacan police officers was shot dead in an armed encounter in Baggao, Cagayan, following nearly three months of intense pursuit by authorities.

The shootout occurred at around 12:40 p.m. on June 4, 2025, in Zone 7, Barangay Bacagan, Baggao. The joint operation was led by the Baggao Police Station in coordination with Regional Intelligence Divisions and Units from Regions 2 and 3, the Cagayan and Bulacan Provincial Intelligence Units, the 204th Maneuver Company of RMFB2, 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, and Bocaue Police Station.

The suspect was identified as Edison Bayumbon y Malubay, also known by the alias “Xander,” who had been facing a double murder charge for the deaths of PSSg Dennis G. Cudiamat and PSSg Gian George N. Dela Cruz on March 8, 2025.

During the service of the arrest warrant, the suspect allegedly drew a firearm and shouted, “I will not be taken alive!”before opening fire on operatives, prompting them to return fire. Bayumbon was killed on the spot.
Recovered from the scene was a Glock pistol with serial number PNP50742, confirmed to have belonged to PSSg Cudiamat. Authorities said Bayumbon had taken the weapon after fatally shooting the officer during the March incident.
Police Regional Office 3 Director PBGEN Jean S. Fajardo said the operation was a direct response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to bring swift justice to victims and strengthen public safety.
“Justice has been served for PSSg Cudiamat and PSSg Dela Cruz, and for the families they left behind,” Fajardo said. “We commend the bravery and commitment of our operatives. In line with the President’s vision for a safer Philippines, we remain steadfast in our duty to protect the public.”
