The National Amnesty Commission (NAC) has received over 2,000 amnesty applications through its 19 Local Amnesty Boards (LABs) across the country.
So far, four LABs have resolved 45 applications, which are now under review and will soon be forwarded to the Office of the President for final approval.
This development marks significant progress in the government’s efforts to promote peace and reconciliation.
NAC Chairperson Leah Tanodra-Armamento highlighted the importance of the amnesty program, describing it as a “benevolent act” that allows former rebels to reintegrate into society and live as productive citizens. Those granted amnesty will regain their civil and political rights, along with access to government benefits and services.
The NAC is mandated to process applications from members of the Rebolusyonaryong Partidong Manggagawa ng Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army/Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPMP/RPA/ABB), former members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF), and members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).
To raise awareness about the program and encourage more applications, the NAC is conducting information, education, and communication campaigns, including visits to campsites and jails.
The NAC is also expanding its reach, with two additional LABs set to open in Mimaropa and Bohol, further supporting its vision of achieving lasting peace through reconciliation and reintegration.
