The North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) is set to begin its first train service from Valenzuela to Malolos in December 2027, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced during his fifth State of the Nation Address.

The planned service will restore rail connectivity between Metro Manila and Bulacan decades after Philippine National Railways trains last operated along the route in the 1990s.

The NSCR system from Valenzuela to Mabalacat is now 65 percent complete, with track laying and installation of electrical systems underway. Two trainsets have also begun initial testing at the NSCR depot near the Meycauayan-Valenzuela boundary.

The 147-kilometer NSCR will eventually connect Clark International Airport to Calamba, Laguna, making it the country’s longest railway project and first airport railway, with a station directly serving Clark airport.

The project will operate 51 commuter trainsets, along with seven express trainsets serving select stations. It will also connect with the Metro Manila Subway at the future FTI station in Taguig.
