Following City Mayor Vilma Caluag’s directive to amend the admission standards of the City College of San Fernando, Pampanga (CCSFP), the institution is now expecting a total of 849 enrollees under the first-year level as of this writing time.
CCSFP data showed that nearly fifty percent of the said number represents the “reassessed” applicants who were initially refused admission.
This transpired after Caluag’s meeting with the CCSFP’s Board of Directors over the past weeks where the plan to amend the college’s admission process by accepting more eligible applicants regardless of their “academic capability” was agreed upon by the members.
“Ding buri tamung saupan kening pamag-amend a ini, detang estudyante a ali ‘academically good’ uling maniwala ku a ali egana-ganang ali byasa [in the academic aspect], ali maging successful. Karing estudyante, pengari, at talaturu, saupan yuku pung agkatan la ding bisang magaral,” Caluag said during her message.
Of the four current programs, the Business Administration course is expecting the highest number of enrollees followed by Education, Information Technology, and Accounting Information System, respectively.
CCSFP Administrator and President Atty. Gloria Victoria-Bañas said that along the amendments, there will also be an expansion of program offerings in the college, if resources permit.
From the current four programs, additional 17 programs are eyed to gradually open within the next four years including Nursing, Psychology, Civil Engineering, Social Work, Tourism and Hospitality Management, among others.
With the amendments, 22-year-old incoming freshman from Northville, Calulut Princess Fey Ricarte will now have the chance to study after a three-year hiatus from schooling, as she emotionally cited:
“Nagpapasalamat po ako ng marami kay Mayor Caluag at sa bumubuo ng CCSFP dahil isa po ako sa mga nagkaroon ng pag-asang mag-aral ng kolehiyo. 2019 pa po ako nagtapos ng high school ngunit dahil sa mahigpit na qualification standards at kakulangan sa pera, hindi po ako makapag-kolehiyo,” Ricarte said.
The college, through its official Facebook page, has posted the first 11 batches of qualified applicants for the first-year level.
From this writing until the first week of September, the application of aspiring students who were initially refused admission will be reassessed by the administration to avail of the college’s programs while first time applicants may still submit their applications.
To recall, during the school year 2021-2022, the CCSFP had a total population of 792 covering all levels. For the 2022-2023 period, with the entry of freshmen, the college’s population is expected to rise to more than 1,500 – a double increase from the past school year’s number.
This number comes close to Caluag’s target of gradually increasing the college’s general population to 2,000.
