Pampanga pushes ‘No-Cost’ river dredging ahead of rainy season

Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda led an inter-agency meeting to fast-track proposed dredging activities along the Pampanga River as part of flood mitigation efforts ahead of the rainy season.

Officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), and the provincial government discussed plans to lower water levels and reduce flooding, particularly in flood-prone areas such as Masantol and Macabebe.

The project will be implemented at no cost to the government, with private entities funding the dredging operations, while DPWH and DENR will oversee execution.

Governor Pineda stressed the urgency of the initiative to ease long-standing flooding concerns among residents, as agencies coordinate with private contractors for its immediate rollout.
