President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. (PBBM) has directed the National Housing Authority (NHA) to immediately provide safe, decent, and permanent housing solutions for families who lost or sustained damage to their homes due to widespread flooding in Lubao, Pampanga.
The affected families, mostly from Barangay Santa Rita, were displaced after raging floodwaters swept through the area following the failure of the Sto. Cristo Dam amid heavy Habagat rains.
They were among 201 families or 649 individuals checked on by PBBM during his visit to Lubao.
Aside from ₱10,000 in financial assistance, the affected families received hot meals, food packs, and kitchen kits from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). They are also being sheltered in evacuation centers established by the Pampanga provincial government in Barangay Santa Catalina, with additional facilities built with support from PAGCOR and the Office of Civil Defense.
Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda said the provincial government, with the assistance of former President and Pampanga 2nd District Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, will prioritize the rehabilitation of the Sto. Cristo Dam to help prevent a recurrence of severe flooding.
PBBM was accompanied during his visit by DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian and Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon as the national government assessed the additional assistance needed by the affected Kapampangan families.
