PCG RESCUES 9 FISHERMEN STRANDED OFF BATAAN COAST

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) successfully rescued nine fishermen who had been stranded for three days off the coast of Bataan after their fishing vessel suffered an engine failure.

According to reports, the BRP Cape San Agustin spotted the distress signal from Fishing Vessel Seriako 1 at around 3:20 PM on Sunday, October 5. PCG personnel promptly responded and safely transferred the nine fishermen—all residents of Mariveles, Bataan—to their ship.

Medical personnel from the Coast Guard Medical and Nursing Service assessed the condition of the rescued fishermen. Seven were found to be in good health, while two received first aid for minor injuries.

Following the rescue, BRP Cape San Agustin towed the disabled vessel back to Mariveles, before turning it over to FV Jasmine Rose to complete the tow to Barangay Sisiman.

Initial investigation revealed that the group had been fishing in Bajo de Masinloc and was on their way home on October 2 when their engine malfunctioned, leaving them adrift at sea for three days before being rescued by the PCG.
