In a significant move to improve workers’ access to primary healthcare, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to formally launch and promote the PhilHealth YAKAP program across the Philippine workforce.
The agreement was signed by PhilHealth Acting President and CEO Dr. Edwin M. Mercado and Labor Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma, with Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Secretary Frederick Go and DOLE Undersecretary Benjo Santos M. Benavidez serving as witnesses. As of June 4, 2025, more than 386,000 employees nationwide are expected to benefit from the program.
PhilHealth YAKAP offers enhanced primary care services—including consultations, lab and cancer screening tests, and access to essential medicines—aimed at promoting preventive care and easing the financial burden of illness among Filipino workers.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed full support for the initiative, aligning it with the government’s vision of a Bagong Pilipinas that safeguards the health and welfare of every Filipino worker.
