Publisher’s Notes (September 12-18, 2021)

by Lincoln M. Baluyut

CDC Traffic czars, nada?

If you happen to travel to Subic, whether for business or pleasure, you’ll probably wonder why motorists follow traffic signs at the Subic Freeport even without any Marshalls around. Here in Clark, it’s the other way around. Drivers just ignore and do not follow traffic signs and rules as they are only suggestions, I guess.

I’ve seen drivers not completely stopping at “Stop” signs and riders just inching their way to the front of the pack trying to beat everybody to the next traffic signal.

So whatever happened to the former police generals that are supposed to be looking after the health and safety of everybody inside the Clark Freeport?

I guess they are also on WFH so they don’t get to see the mess inside Clark.

Speaking of Clark, the expansion and building of new bike lanes is most laudable. It gives cyclists more space away from motor vehicles instead of sharing one road.

But CDC is forgetting other major roads that also need some repairs.

Let’s not just use the budget for one reason. There are roads that need attention also. Like the one in front of the Widus Hotel. It might not be the doing of CDC but it’s been left open for almost two years now since I moved back here and is a major hazard to motorists plying the route. (See photo).

Road widening is still at a standstill. Intersections are still left to be completed.

What gives?

Election fever is coming to its highest level as the filing of candidacies is just a month away.

Probable candidates, local and national, are still “testing the water” if they have chances of winning and who and what party they can join forces with.

Locally, the towns of Magalang and Porac and even the City of San Fernando are interesting to watch as Capitol bets are pitted against the incumbents.

While in Angeles City, according to my sources, incumbent Mayor Pogi Lazatin won’t have a big name in the fight for his seat as former Mayor Ed Pamintuan won’t be joining the fray. That leaves Councilor Amos Rivera and that will be easy picking for Mayor Pogi.

Congressman Jon Lazatin will be facing former PNP General Oscar Albayalde for the First Congressional District seat of Pampanga, if Albayalde pushes through with his quest.

In Mabalacat City, media mogul Deng Pangilinan will give incumbent Mayor Cris Garbo a run for his money.

All this we will find out starting October 1 to 8, 2021 when the filing starts.

For the national side, the PDP-Laban-Cusi Faction announced their official candidates as Sen. Bong Go as its presidential candidate while President Rodrigo R. Duterte as its vice-presidential candidate.

In their slate for senators are DOLE Sec. Silvestre Bello III; DOTr Sec. Arthur Tugade; chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo; Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez; DPWH Sec. Mark Villar; Deputy House Speaker Rodante Marcoleta; PACC Chairman Greco Belgica; and, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

Meanwhile, Senator Panfilo Lacson and Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III officially launched their bids for president and vice-president in the 2022 elections.

The Liberal Party hasn’t really decided yet on who they will nominate to run for the highest positions in the country.

More will be announced as the filing of candidacies gets nearer.

Abangan.
