The Local Government of San Fernando was the only LGU in Central Luzon to receive the highest “compliant” rating in the Regional Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council and Office (LDRRMCO) Assessment.
This, after the Gawad KALASAG (GK) Search for Excellence in DRRM and Humanitarian Assistance, awarded the newly-established GK Seal to serve as an assessment mechanism for all LGUs as they implement the mandatory provisions of sections 11 and 12 of Republic Act 10121.
San Fernando got a “Beyond Compliant” rating which means that the LGU exceeded the standards set for the establishment and functionality of the Local DRRM Councils and Local DRRM Offices.
The plaque of recognition was conferred during the Regional LDRRMCO Assessment Recognition led by the Office of Civil Defense-Central Luzon on December 17, 2021 at the Best Western Metro Clark Hotel, Angeles City.
For his part, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago vowed to strengthen the disaster response efforts of San Fernando. He also commended the local DRRM Council and office headed by Raymond Del Rosario.
“This Gawad KALASAG Seal only proves that we have always been excellent in making San Fernando a disaster-resilient community and a pandemic-resistant city,” Santiago said.
In 2019, the City of San Fernando also bagged the Best City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council award under the Independent/Component city category.
