BCDA, K-Water partner for Camp John Hay, Poro Point water infra system

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and its subsidiaries, John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) and Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC), have signed memoranda of understanding with Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water) to develop smart water infrastructure in Camp John Hay, Baguio City, and Poro Point, La Union.

The partnership will tap into K-Water’s expertise in modern water resource development, including its Smart Water Network Management (SWNM) system, to improve water supply efficiency and sustainability in these economic zones. The initiative will begin with a comprehensive assessment of existing infrastructure, followed by a strategic implementation plan tailored to local conditions.

“K-Water is the ideal partner to address the critical water management challenges we face in revitalizing Camp John Hay, enhancing Poro Point, and supporting the dynamic growth of New Clark City,” said BCDA President and CEO Joshua M. Bingcang.

He emphasized that the collaboration will help reduce water loss and introduce AI-powered purification systems to ensure a reliable, high-quality water supply amid climate-related pressures.

The agreement will also support efforts to identify new water sources, improve supply stability, reduce system leakages, and promote knowledge-sharing in sustainable water practices.

This marks BCDA’s second partnership with K-Water, following a 2023 collaboration in New Clark City that included feasibility studies for an AI-driven water management system.

The initiative supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Clean Water and Sanitation (Goal 6), Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11), Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal 12), and Climate Action (Goal 13).
